Right. First up, I play acoustic pop music. I don't like most acoustic music. (I like indiepop, electronic pop, punkpop and noisepop. Bit of a pop thing going on, then.) But I think acoustic is a mode of arrangement rather than a genre. This means I like playing acoustic nights but I like playing gigs with, like, bands even more. It also means there's plenty of acoustic music I do like: Jeffrey Lewis; MJ Hibbett solo; Dennis Driscoll; Robyn Hitchcock; Frankie Machine; Ben Calvert; Monkey Swallows The Universe; and... oooh, I dunno, loads. My first solo gig was in December 2002. After that I didn't play again for a year or something. Then I did a few more solo gigs. Then in 2007 I did lots more solo gigs. And as of May 2008 I have a backing band, the Pete Green Corporate Juggernaut, comprising Mr Rob Dean on drums and percussion and Mr Dan Hartley on bass guitar. I expect I'll still play some solo gigs here and there though. In 2007 my first solo record, Everything I Do is Gonna be Sparkly, was released on Atomic Beat Records (the product page will tell you how to buy it, should you be so minded). In July 2008 I have an EP coming out on Lost Music. I hope to put an album together at some point, but don't hold your breath. Unless you're from a record label and you want to release it, in which case give me a shout and I'll crack on with it right away! I'm not even a guitarist really. I'm a singer. The guitar is just kind of a means to an end. I live in Sheffield, which is the greenest, sweetest, most soulful, most distinctive city in England. It makes me happy. I haven't got a Myspace account because Myspace does my head in. Oh, you can upload your songs, and have links to other people's websites, and they can send you messages? Amazing. Just like the web could do already, except giving more power to Rupert Murdoch. And the sites look as ugly as his evil right-wing face. If you're on Myspace then I'm not having a go at you; this is just explaining why I'm not.
This is my lovely cat, George. This morning he has been trying to hump my arm while I type. He says to say hi. When I lived in Birmingham I used to be in a band called The Regulars. We made a very small number of people smile very much. There's a website, abandoned at the moment we split up, and still poignantly drifting Marie Celeste-style. |

Music is more important than football, but football is still quite important, damn it. I support Grimsby Town FC because they are my hometown club and a lifetime of pain dramatically punctuated with occasional ecstasy beats tranquilised Premiership tedium any time, and I proudly co-edit and write for a GTFC web fanzine called Cod Almighty. |
